This late-season perennial blooms with numerous deep purple flowers. Bees and butterflies are attracted to the flowers which grow to one-half inch across and cluster near the top of the plant. Ironweed can grow from three to six feet tall and has narrow alternating leaves that fill the length of the stem. The stem can be red or purple which adds a touch of color to the surrounding greenery. Ironweed grows best in moist soil with full sun and is found in pastures, prairies, swamps and marshes. |
