Indian grass is a sun-loving grass that grows well in a variety of soil types including sand, clay and loam. It prefers dry, medium or moist soil. The golden branchlets that ascend the stem can be up to four inches long. Because Indian Grass stands upright rather than bowing with the wind, it is a perfect cover for birds and small prairie animals.
